Job Summary: As an Environmental & Sustainability Coordinator, you will have primary responsibilities for onsite environmental and sustainability for the Franklin, KY location. You will handle onsite hazardous and non-hazardous waste to meet RCRA EPA regulations to ensure timely waste processing, while controlling costs. You will handle onsite environmental compliance for sanitary discharge (wastewater) permit sampling and reporting, and the stormwater pollution discharge permit sampling and reporting. Lastly, you will manage the onsite recycling, landfill administration and utilities reduction to find innovative solutions to avoid, reduce, reuse, recycling waste.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively walk the floor daily to identify and implement process changes to avoid, reduce, reuse, recycle to eliminate landfill waste and costs.
  • Proactively partner with engineering, maintenance, or third-party contractors to identify and implement capital or operational projects to reduce electrical, natural gas, water utility usage and costs.
  • Champion the onsite sustainability committee to drive engagement from the floor and office personnel.
  • Onsite environmental administrative responsibility for the Franklin, KY location, which includes supporting the Environmental Specialist and EHS Manager in: Wastewater sampling and reports, stormwater sampling and reports, assisting in RCRA hazardous waste reports, assisting in Title V air reports, Tier II and TRI reports, etc.
  • Complete timely annual, quarterly, monthly or weekly onsite environmental inspections to identify and mitigate compliance risks associated with air, opacity, wastewater, stormwater, tank farm, warehouse, hazardous waste, etc.
  • Own the Franklin, KY site RCRA Hazardous Waste program, which includes: maintaining a safe, clean and organized hazardous waste shed, organizing hazardous and non-hazardous waste into appropriate waste streams, processing hazardous waste within 90-days from start date, ensuring drum bungs and lids are secure, selection of proper drums, loading hazardous and non-hazardous waste into trailers for shipment, completing and signing hazardous waste manifests.
  • Be able to pass fork truck training and safely operate a fork truck to fulfill hazardous waste responsibilities.
  • Identify and implement projects to reduce hazardous or non-hazardous waste at the Franklin, KY location, while sharing best practices and supporting applicable projects at Riverhead, NY and Bristol, RI locations
  • Own the onsite sustainability program to include: Tracking sustainability performance (including ISO14001 ERM metrics, and assisting in Green-House Gas (GHG) emissions reporting) for the site, track landfill waste streams, cardboard, plastic, wooden pallets, aluminum, metal recycling. Identify and implement projects to reduce sustainability impact and costs across all three Vybond locations.
  • Provide strategic and daily operation support for the onsite recycling personnel.
  • Own and manage the site’s recycling partner contracts to drive towards a zero cost recycling program.
  • Order recycling, empty drums, hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste, biohazard, universal, and e-waste pickups.
  • Maintain the site’s spill storage and spill supply locations through ordering absorbents as necessary.
  • Partner with the onsite resident contractor in maintaining a clean and effective stormwater pollution prevention system.
  • Own and update the site’s Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), contingency plans and other local community required reporting annually or as required.
  • Conduct environmental and sustainability training for new hire and existing employees.
  • Own the Franklin, KY site’s environmental documentation, forms and training in the documentation system.
  • Setting annual sustainability goals in coordination with the Franklin, KY EHS Manager and Plant Director, and provide goal setting support/recommendations for Riverhead, NY and Bristol, RI locations.
  • Onsite responsibility for completion of the new chemical request form process and uploading/maintaining SDSs in the SDS system.
  • Own the site’s Asbestos and PCB Management program to complete surveys every three years, coordinate demolition construction project asbestos or PCB disposal, manage licensed asbestos or PCB abatement contractors, and track disposal records.
  • Be part of the onsite ISO14001 annual audit, and annual Environmental internal audit to drive corrective and preventative actions.
  • Manage the EHS department inbox to ensure timely processing of tasks.
  • Be able to learn and be a backup for the Health & Safety side of the business.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Engineer, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint applications.
  • At least 2 years of experience in environmental compliance management and/or sustainability in a manufacturing environment or 4 years in driving continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.  
  • Must be or be able to complete training RCRA and DOT
  • Ability to learn company specific computer applications
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Preferred: Environmental Certifications such as CES, CHMM, REM, etc.
