Overview

Berry Global Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Internship Program is looking for collaborative results-oriented candidates with strong critical thinking and communication skills.  The internship is designed to give candidates a better understanding of how safety is driven at a company that prioritizes safety and has a strong safety culture.  The intern will be exposed to various aspects of safety management and get comprehensive knowledge of workplace safety and health standards.

The intern will develop the skills and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation to build a career in the safety field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the skills and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation to build a career in the safety field.
  • Support the Berry Global safety culture and improvements by participating in projects or initiatives identified by the site.
  • Update safety procedures, safe work instructions, and job hazard analyses (JHA).
  • Conduct personal protective equipment (PPE) and confined space hazard assessments; review lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures and completed permits.
  • Track and monitor trends of proactive and reactive safety metrics.
  • Conduct procedural gap analyses, audits, and develop reports with corrective actions; analyze data and develop reports; assist in training and development; develop safety training materials.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of high potential exposures and conduct gap analyses.
  • Demonstrate understanding by responding to verbal or written inquiries from managers, supervisors, mentors, or program manager.
  • Perform other related functions and duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; current pursuing an Occupational Health and Safety college diploma/degree or certification.
  • Ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, adversity, and constant change.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adhere to Berry Global’s Safety, Health, and Environmental Vision, Policy, and Standards.
  • Primarily a day shift position with a flexible work schedule.
  • Ability to stand, sit, kneel, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and crawl for extended periods multiple times per day.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to work in warm, humid, and cool climates.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes safety glasses, safety goggles, hearing protection, steel toe shoes/boots, face shield, gloves, and face mask.
