Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY: 

 

Provide supervision to employees assigned to Quality Department in support of plant production and product quality requirements.  Supervise the Quality personnel in conjunction with normal day to day activities.  Lead and drive continuous improvement initiative across the site.  Provide Management of Change (MOC) support to all capital project installations.  Provide additional management support as needed relative to plant objectives.  Seek out and develop processes to lower the plant costs associated with product quality.  

 

  • Supervise employees in the Quality Department; carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Develop cost savings initiatives relative to quality improvements and labor reduction throughout the site.
  • Monitor the results of quality of the production process; communicate information concerning quality to the Production Manager and Plant Manager; collaborate with Production Manager on quality issues.
  • Manage the safety of all Quality employees; hold quality employees accountable for checking the quality lab for safety/housekeeping hazards throughout the shift and addressing issues immediately.
  • Manage all customer complaints and ensure proper corrective actions are implemented and communicated back to customer in a timely manner through the JDE or TICS system.
  • Report any environmental and safety infractions to Environmental Health and Safety Manager as appropriate.
  • Participate in the safety programs by reporting and addressing unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, and close calls and entering near misses and observations into Global Data Center (GDC).
  • Maintain good business relationships with division personnel in order to meet or exceed our goals.
  • Management representative for ISO and safety programs across the site; manage implementation of all quality systems to meet ISO 9001-2015 standards.
  • Optimize utilization of the Quality Management System for maximum department productivity and efficiency.
  • Identify and implement cost savings; monitor and report progress of cost initiatives.
  • Manage Quality Department budget and ensure compliance with cost initiatives and savings.
  • Represent the company’s position and interest in collaborating with outside contractors, vendors, and quality consultants.
  • Identify training needs to develop Quality employees; provide ongoing coaching/counseling to Quality employees for employee performance and attendance.
  • Responsible for training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; partner with Human Resources Department for employee awards and disciplinary actions.
  • Lead the plant team to achieve Corporate Quality Goals, focusing on reducing both the frequency and cost of complaints.
  • Collaborate with the Logistics Manager to assess customer concerns regarding shipping issues and facilitate the return of defective or damage products. 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; Bachelors or Masters Degree in Business Management, Natural Sciences, Industrial Science, or Statistics preferred or equivalent practical experience. 
  • Three to five years experience in Quality Management, Engineering Management, Production Management and/or Project Management in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Professional certification in Quality preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adhere to Berry’s Safety, Health, and Environmental Vision, Policy, and Standards.
  • Ability to stand, sit, kneel, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and crawl for extended periods multiple times per day.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to work in warm, humid, and cool climates.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes safety glasses, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toe shoes/boots.
  • Understand business implication of decisions; display orientation to profitability; demonstrate knowledge of market and competition; align work with strategic goals.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work activities and to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to make practical decisions without appreciable direction or advance preparation.
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office desktop applications and the ability to learn and operate JDE, Kronos, and other business management software.
  • Ability to work under high-pressure situations while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and professionalism.
