Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing production during the assigned shift. This role ensures that all production goals are met while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards. The supervisor will manage the shift team, address operational issues, and coordinate with other departments to ensure efficient workflow.

  • Supervise Daily Operations: Oversee processes to ensure efficient production and timely completion of schedules.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and guide the shift production team, ensuring proper staffing, training, and performance management.
  • Quality Control: Monitor product quality by conducting inspections and audits to ensure adherence to specifications and standards.
  • Process Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and continous improvement.
  • Safety and Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies. Address any safety concerns or violations promptly.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve any issues with equipment, tooling, or processes that may arise during the shift.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production, downtime, quality checks, and shift reports.
  • Communication: Coordinate with other supervisors, departments, and management to ensure seamless production flow and address any inter-departmental concerns.
  • Training and Development: Provide training to operators and other team members on safe and efficient operating procedures for compression molding machines.
  • Inventory and Materials Management: Monitor raw materials and finished products inventory levels, ensuring adequate supply for production.
  • Maintenance Coordination: Work closely with the maintenance team to schedule preventative maintenance and address equipment issues.
  • Responsible for accurate production reporting (WebEFF) and timekeeping (Kronos)
  • Drive improvements in production efficiencies and ensure efficient labor utilization.
  • Use plant reporting and accounting systems to ensure cost control, make capital recommendations and deliver cost reductions.
  • Organize and lead employee teams to address scrap, quality, safety, and other production issues.
  • Shift Handover: Ensure a smooth transition between shifts by communicating any relevant updates or ongoing issues.

  • Furnishes production reports, summaries, and other paperwork as required, using designated software programs. Including but not limited to JDE, WEBEFF, Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Works in cooperation with the other departments, and may from time to time assume their duties during vacations, absences, etc.
  • Actively Lead and Support Lean Manufacturing Principles
  • Support the development, implementation, review, management and maintenance of the plant's Food Packaging Safety Program, including the SQF System.
  • Communicate to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF System.
  • Report Food Safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action to maintain the integrity of the SQF System.
  • Cover in the absence of key personnel to maintain the integrity of the SQF System and Food Safety in the plant.
  • Initiate action to prevent occurrences of any nonconformity’s of product or quality systems.
  • Identify and record problems relating to product, process and quality system.
  • Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Verify the implementation of solutions.

Qualifications

 

Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, High school diploma or equivalent with technical and/or leadership experience.

Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in compression molding or a similar manufacturing environment, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of compression molding processes, equipment, and tools. Ability to read blueprints and understand production specifications.

Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, manage conflict, and drive results. Team Building. 

Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot production and equipment issues efficiently.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Computer Skills: Proficiency in using manufacturing software, MS Office (Excel, Word), and ERP systems, Teams. 

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy materials, and work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, and temperature fluctuations.
