As a member of the logistics group, the Logistics Specialist will be responsible for performing day to day functions in all aspects of Transportation Operations to include transportation planning, freight payment/claims, and fleet operations as this role will have split responsibilities in each of these verticals. Specific duties will include, shipment planning and optimization/consolidation, creating loads within the required TMS system, managing carrier partners, private fleet drivers, and facility communications as they apply to order movement, carrier development, appointment scheduling, assist with freight payment and aged carrier invoices, fleet dispatch, manage communications with various operational and commercial groups.

 

**This role is located in Evansville, IN. Relocation not available**

Responsibilities

  • Step in coverage of freight payment, logistics planning and dispatcher role when necessary
  • Supports transportation planning over assigned locations when necessary
  • Serves as liaison between logistics, customer service, procurement, and the carrier in order to develop strong operating processes and pro-active communications.
  • Provides periodic updates of shipment status, reacts to priority issues, and help requests in a timely manner.
  • Accountable for responding to inquiries in the group email inbox as assigned and executing the day-to-day load planning activities for IM, LTL, and TL shipments.
  • Create internal plant transfer orders as needed to fulfill forecasted demand by reviewing ERP system notifications.
  • Navigate open orders, supply/demand, and internal production needs from an item’s bills of materials to maintain accurate supply levels.
  • Have a clear understanding of how to read inventory levels such as safety stock, replenishment needs, and requested demand for all assigned items.
  • Accountable for monitoring and maintaining effective inventory levels on all assigned transfer items.
  • Responsible for routing/planning freight for assigned region/coverage.
  • Responsible for private fleet route planning for assigned region/coverage.
  • Dispatch drivers to assigned freight via TMS system
  • Track and trace fleet while in transit
  • Update customers on status of delivery for fleet shipments
  • Set load appointments with customers for fleet shipments
  • Responsible for optimizing daily transportation plan through load consolidation.
  • Responsible for key metrics that drive inventory optimization along with freight cost reduction.
  • Will assist in coordination of creating transfer item setups, cost rolling, transferring bill of materials, routing notes, plate numbers, and needed ORM jointly with Sales Support, Scheduling, Creative Services, and PDM teams.
  • Assists in the resolution of CIO’s, damage claims, and carrier service issues as required.
  • Identifies areas of opportunity that lead to greater efficiencies and lower costs.
  • Review deduction ledger concerning all logistics related issues and file CIO accordingly.
  • Evaluate all incoming freight claim requests, if valid; manage the entire process until completion.
  • Collect/Coordinate all supporting documentation required to properly file a claim in accordance to industry standards.
  • Assertively file and manage freight claims against specified carriers within assigned region.
  • Minimize financial impact by identifying root cause and developing corrective actions that prevent future occurrences.
  • Assist in coordinating the return of damaged product to the assigned facility.
  • Review all unmatched invoices through the TMS portal and process accordingly.
  • Review all shipments that have invoice exceptions through the TMS portal and process accordingly.
  • Review all shipments that have an accessorial request in the TMS portal and process accordingly.
  • Act as a liaison with TMS provider for all carrier financial inquires and work to find resolution.
  • Act as a liaison with shipping leadership teams to identify root cause/corrective action plan on all Logistics related opportunities.
  • Assist in managing DoT compliance for all assigned drivers/locations.
  • Executes on projects that increase efficiencies and maximize cost advantages.
  • Supports and provides training to new hires as assigned by leadership.
  • Perform additional tasks as deemed necessary by leadership.

  • Proven transportation/logistics experience
  • Excellent attention to details
  • Strong IT systems knowledge and skills including knowledge and understanding of specialist systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Bill of Material (BOM) and customer data systems
  • Advanced Excel user
  • Ability to analyze and manipulate technical and complex data and provide meaningful information

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or closely related equivalent
  • 2-3 years’ experience in transportation industry required
  • Knowledge of LTL/TL pricing formats
  • Experience using a TMS system required
  • TMC knowledge a plus
  • PCS knowledge a plus
  • Ability to lead and influence in a matrix environment
  • Proficiency in gathering, analyzing and interpreting data.
  • JDE/Cognos/Tableau proficiency a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and related Office applications
  • Effectively communicate with customers, both external and internal
