Responsibilities

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Apprentice consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Exemplifies the Berry Behaviors and Values at all times. Leads by example and exhibits professionalism in all areas when representing Berry inside and outside of the plant.
  • Embodies commitment for a safe workplace.
  • Assist in the inspection and repair of pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, electrical and mechanical systems on machines.
  • Complete work assigned by Maintenance Manager.
  • Communicate activities with Maintenance Manager and other members of department.
  • Maintain neat and orderly appearance of shop and machines.
  • Obtain parts in emergency cases.
  • Assist other departments as requested by Maintenance Manager.
  • Seek training to stay current with job requirements.
  • Assume control of machine when a situation arises which has potential for personal injury or rapid deterioration of machine.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Knowledgeable on mechanical systems; must possess a general mechanic aptitude.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Exposure to manufacturing environment and loud noise; Hearing protection required at times.
  • Equal amounts of time spent sitting, standing, bending, and lifting/moving.
  • Able to work effectively with a team, displaying ability to work and deliver results in a fast-paced, performance driven environment.
  • Able to climb ladders safely and without assistance for a minimum of 15 times per shift.
  • Verbal communication adequate to use a radio and or paging system to contact other co-workers in other areas of the complex.
  • Hearing sufficient to recognize and respond to shouted warnings, alarms and horns on forklifts.
  • Able to use both hands for effective manipulation of tools/parts.
  • Able to work overhead or in awkward positions on a frequent basis.
  • Able to stand/walk for 7 hours of an 8-hour shift.
