About the Role

As an intern at Berry Global, you'll meet and learn from business leaders across the organization, work on meaningful projects, and develop skills, knowledge and connections that will propel you forward in your career. Berry's internship program is designed to bridge the gap between classroom concepts and practical application in a real-world industrial manufacturing environment. The Human Resources Intern will assist full-time HR team members with various activities supporting the recruitment, onboarding, training, employee engagement, staffing, and workforce development needs of the company. They will also gain valuable exposure to essential HR functions like compensation and benefits, learning and development, rewards and recognition, employee relations, and internal communications. This position will comprise of approximately 100% office/administrative work. Personal accountability is expected, questions are encouraged, and constructive feedback is welcome as we pursue our mission of always advancing to protect what's important.

 

Daily workload will vary based on the HR team's fluctuating priorities for the week, and may include:

  • Scanning, naming, and e-filing employment records
  • Running and auditing termination, turnover, anniversary, and other reports
  • Creating, deploying, and analyzing employee pulse surveys
  • Brainstorming, planning, and executing employee engagement initiatives (events, special recognitions, plant meals, bonus week activities, etc.)
  • Distributing a weekly roundup of internal job postings

 Other projects that may be delegated to the intern may include:

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of turnover, presenting findings to plant leadership
  • Curate and organize comprehensive interview training for full-time employees
  • Devise a consistent, confidential process for taking and storing witness statements for employee relations cases
  • Create new or revitalize current employee rewards programs (recognition plaques, token exchange program, milestone anniversary gifts, etc.)
  • Design a sustainable system for document retention, following all relevant company policies and regulatory requirements

 Compensation: $19 - $21/hour

 

 **The Human Resources Intern will work onsite at the Lawrence, KS facility and is intended to be temporary for the Summer of 2025. This position will work up to 40 hours/week Monday - Friday. Anticipated start dates are May 13th or May 20th. Relocation is not available for this role.**

Responsibilities

  • Schedule interviews and pre-employment screening
  • Provide support throughout the onboarding process (reference checking, employment authorization, offer extension, new hire orientation)
  • Complete regular audits of HR-related files, updating and maintaining confidential personnel files
  • Distribute information via frequent internal communication (physical FAQ boards, digital signage, email, Microsoft Teams, etc.)
  • Engage with team members at all levels in a courteous and professional manner
  • Frequently report on project progress and challenges
  • Embrace a team player mentality by approaching all assigned tasks with consideration and positive intent, regardless of scope
  • Provide general support to the Human Resources department as needed
  • Contribute to Company-wide Safety, Quality, and Productivity goals
  • Comply with all Company Environmental Health and Safety and Department of Health standards

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled 2nd or 3rd year college student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Management, or related field
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor in stressful situations
  • Previous exposure to Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) preferred
  • Previous exposure to and familiarity with Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) preferred
