Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Safety Manager (EH & S Manager) lead the environmental, health and safety (EHS) initiatives including but not limited to air, water, waste, energy, greenhouse gas, safety programs and must have a comprehensive understanding of the Risk Assessment process. Directs activities relating to all regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.), security, worker's compensation and property/casualty insurance matters.

 

Division:  Consumer Packaging North America (CPNA)

Location:  Various plant locations throughout the United States

Reports to:  Site Plant Manager

 

KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop, implement and manage safety programs, policies and procedures.
  2. Identify hazardous conditions/actions within the plant and recommend corrective measures.
  3. Investigate and prepare presentations for all incidents and property losses.
  4. Organize and oversee all required safety training, i.e. fork truck, lockout, new hire onboarding, etc.
  5. Provide safety orientation to new employees.
  6. Conduct Management to Change on new equipment.
  7. Provide Supervisors/Group leaders with safety training information for weekly and monthly safety meetings.
  8. Track training to ensure compliance with Corporate Regulatory Task Schedule.
  9. Identify gaps in training curriculum by analyzing injury/illness data.
  10. Manage the contractor safety program and ensure compliance.
  11. Assist inspection personnel from insurance carriers, OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.
  12. Manage all federal, state and local environmental permits and ensure compliance.
  13. Assist in purchasing appropriate personal protective equipment.
  14. Prepare monthly incident summary reports.
  15. Supervise maintenance of OSHA 300 log.
  16. Supervise safety teams.
  17. Support site as safety mentor for visitors.
  18. File and maintain SDS sheets.
  19. Assist with the administration of the workers compensation program.
  20. Recommend and budget for safety capital expenditure items and annual safety budget.
  21. Manage all property/casualty insurance claims.
  22. Perform any other duties established by the Regional EHS Director.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  1. BS in Industrial Safety Management preferred.
  2. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  3. 1-3 years Safety Experience in an industrial setting.
  4. Strong organizational skills with proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  5. Extensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA and other government regulations.
  6. Excellent interpersonal effectiveness in order to support team-based culture.
  7. Must possess a passion for excellance and the desire to succeed.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

 

Read and write; understand spreadsheets, charts and technical manuals; good phone skills required.
