- Pre-shift exercise/stretching activity to be performed before you can enter production area unless written doctors release can be provided to Human Resources. (SPG-00036 - Stretching Program)
- Work as a team. Get help when needed.
- If for any reason problems arise, immediately notify department supervisor of problems.
- Understand all safety precautions of proper operation of machines and equipment that are used while performing your job duties. (Proper JSA’s have been signed off)
- To operate molding presses, to open or close molds for repairs.
- To troubleshoot basic problems in the molding process pertaining to the mold.
- To assist in setting and pulling molds.
- Be sure the outside surface of the mold platens are cleaned before installing of mold.
- Inspect molds for completeness, i.e.: lift bar, mold feet, casting spacers are correct, etc.… before set-up.
- Set and pull molds out of machines. (WI-00748 Setting of Mold in Molding Machine Procedure, WI-00875 JSA-RA The Removal of a Mold Safely and Correctly)
- Ensure machine nozzle length is correct. (WI-00872 JSA-RA Exchanging Nozzle)
- Set carriage and clamp positive stops. Properly set safety drop bar where applicable.
- Indicate mold section for drop on stacked molds.
- Keep shop area and work area around molding machines neat and orderly.
- Make sure all electrical is working properly and hooked up correctly.
- Check molds for water leaks and air leaks. Make sure air is hooked up correctly.
- Understands the importance of the Mold Check Progress Form and mold cleaning procedure. (FCD-00307 - Mold Check Progress Sheet, WI-00753 - Mold Cleaning Procedure)
- To clean and check molds.
- Assist other Tool Room employees in their repair of molds or equipment.
- To wire and check all mold heaters.
- To water, air and electrical test molds before leaving the shop. (WI-00936 - JSA-RA Water Test a Mold in the Tool Room, WI-00871 – JSA-RA How to Live Check Mold in Shop)
- To Green-tag molds when molds are production ready.
- Notify Tooling Manager or Tooling Group Leader of molds that are damaged or in need of repairs.
- Record on the Mold Maintenance File any maintenance that is completed on every mold. This will include the date, person doing the work and what work was completed. The information should be specific and brief. (WI-00742 - Mold History Files Procedure, WI-00743 – Mold Information Packet Procedure, WI-00751 – Mold Maintenance Card Procedure)
- Notify Tooling Group Leader or Tooling Assistant Group Leader of supplies needed for day to day operation of the Tool Room.
- Keep the Tool Room clean. (FCD-00315 – Tool Room Daily Sanitation/Weekly/Monthly/ Quarterly Cleaning Schedule)
- Carry out any other tasks as assigned by the Tooling Manager, Tooling Group Leader, or Tooling Assistant Group Leader.
- To fully understand and utilize the established CPRO/ISO, HACCP, SQF, and GDC procedures.
- Complete inspections as needed. (FCD-00301 - Tool Room Master Safety Inspection Sheets, WI-00757 - Tool Room Crane, Chain, & Sling Inspection Procedure, WI-00758 – Motorized Equipment Inspection Procedure)
- Can shut down molding machines or any other piece of equipment when harm to persons or property is in immediate danger.
PURPOSE: To define the responsibilities and qualifications of a Mold Technician.
AUTHORITY: Is hereby given to the employee by the Tooling Manager to carry out the responsibilities and any other duties as directed.
