Responsibilities

Safety

  • Ensure personal safety and the safety of fellow employees
    • Safety is the first core value of Berry Global.
    • The Tech Mentee role is preparation for the Process Technician position, where “leadership by example” is key.
  • Complies with all EHS directives and follows all plant safety rules
    • This includes following all LOTO, department rules, and filling out all required safety documents
  • Ensures a clean work area on assigned machine/section
    • A clean work environment is critical to safety in preventing slips, trips, and falls

Quality

  • Ensure part quality on assigned machine meets or exceeds customer expectations
    • Our part quality reflects directly on our job performance.
    • The mentee should check parts being packaged on their assigned line
  • Pull samples for Quality Assurance after machine start-up (or as needed)
    • Samples should be pulled and inspected before the machine goes into production following start-up (or downtime event as needed)
    • If filling in for the Process Technician, samples should be pulled according to Quality Assurance guidelines
  • Notify or assist in the modification of process parameters when quality issues arise
    • The process needs to be modified to ensure proper part quality as issues arise
    • If filling the Process Technician Role, Mentees should notify a Process Technician or higher when a quality issue is identified for assistance

Production

  • Perform all duties of the Operator position
    • The primary function of the Mentee is that of the Operator
    • The Mentee will be scheduled on “off-line” Thermoforming machines, unless necessity dictates otherwise
  • Fill role of Process Technician if necessity dictates
    • Perform all duties of the Process Technician role (with assistance from the Training Staff and/or Leadership)
  • Assist in the recovery from downtime events on Thermoforming equipment
    • The Mentee will follow the direction of Thermoforming Technical Trainers and leadership in assisting with recovery from downtime events
  • Assist in the safe and efficient start-up and shut down of thermoforming lines
    • The Mentee should be assisting in the start-up (and shut down, if possible)
  • Work with support groups to troubleshoot & correct equipment issues
    • Cooperative relationship must exist between support groups and production to ensure efficient correction of machine issues

Authorities

  • Authority to operate production line equipment in thermoforming
  • Authority to progressively express concerns up the chain-of-command
  • Authority to scrap “in-process” product
  • If filling the role of the Process Technician
    • Authority to correct improper/ inadequate safety measures, SQF, or GMP
    • Authority to contact QA to place product on hold
    • Authority to input data into online data systems
    • Authority to retrieve paperwork and labels
