Responsibilities

  1. Promote a safe work environment that drives continuous improvement in all aspects of employee health and safety.
  2. Investigate situations in which line/equipment stoppage occurs due to perceived, imminent safety risk.
  3. Provides leadership in achieving Berry’s Safety & Environmental key performance indicators, and certification requirements. 
  4. Partner with employees and front-line leaders on the floor to identify and correct safety opportunities.
  5. Track open identified or reported EHS opportunities/issues, resolve issues, and escalate where you need help to the EHS Manager for resolution.
  6. Take part in incident investigations to identify root causes and help implement corrective actions.
  7. Implement proactive or continuous improvement projects to reduce the facility risk profile.
  8. Plant inspection administration by conducting, auditing, and recording various safety inspections.
  9. Manage the timely closure of safety items.
  10. Own the site’s equipment specific Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program by completing annual reviews in coordination with the site’s maintenance department.
  11. Develop, maintain, and manage documents in all Safety related CPro folders
  12. Drive continuous improvement and maintenance of the site’s ISO45001 and ISO14001 certifications.
  13. Lead the Employee Safety Committees, conduct risk assessment, ergonomic assessments and corrective actions
  14. Track permitting and required form document systems (Hot Work, Solvent, NRTHA, Confined Space, etc.)
  15. Own the site’s EHS training program through partnership with site training coordinators to ensure all employees have completed their necessary EHS training and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) training requirements.
  16. Assist in conducting departmental and new hire safety training
  17. Maintain internal and Corp EHS Metrics
  18. Conduct corporate EHS Gap Analysis and corrective actions
  19. Participate in emergency preparedness planning and response activities.
  20. Manage SDS database
  21. Assist in maintaining Hazard Communication compliance and requirements
  22. Take part in owning corrective actions that are a result from corporate incidents, GRIP action items, site incidents, agency visits/inspections, or committees.
  23. Perform other duties as required or directed.
  24. Must have excellent attendance.

Qualifications

  1. At least one of the following is required:  Graduate Safety Professional (GSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental or related field, or at least 5 years’ of manufacturing experience.
  2. Must be computer literate and proficient with Internet, E-mail and Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and be quick to learn applicable EHS software GDC, Etq, QSI, STOP DataPro, etc…
  3. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  4. Must possess a friendly and outgoing demeanor
  5. Be comfortable to lead, participate and function effectively on teams/committees
  6. Expected to complete OSHA 511 and 501, Authorized OSHA 10 – 30 Hour Instructor
  7. Current or able to qualify for CPR/First Aid/CPR/BBP certifications.
  8. Six Sigma certification preferred (Green or Black Belt)
  9. Good understanding and application of 29 CFR 1910 standards is preferred
  10. Positive and motivational presentation skills are preferred
  11. Knowledge and ability to apply adult training methodology is preferred
  12. Knowledge of facilities, utilities, emergency procedures, fire extinguishing systems, manufacturing processes, and management systems are preferred
