Responsibilities

The Process Engineer is responsible for the continuous improvement of asset productivity and quality through improved process control and capability. Leads efforts to troubleshoot quality, material and process problems and drives improved process control through SOP, material, FMEA, equipment and skill development. 

  • Promote and support highest level of safety, both personally and with others, throughout daily activities.
  • Plan, execute and document trial results for process and product development
  • Develop and lead improvement programs around quality and process capability
  • Provide support for investigations into customer complaints, develop corrective action plans
  • Partner with maintenance team to improve machine reliability
  • Regularly interacts with frontline leaders and production employees to provide direction and solve problems
  • Initiate plans to minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of processes and equipment
  • Utilize process control methodology (Six Sigma, SPC, Designed Experiments, etc.) to solve problems and improve process control and capability
  • Track improvement through approved methodologies
  • Participate in long term strategic planning involving the optimum utilization of Berry Global assets
  • Manage product quality risks through failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA)
  • Troubleshooting through root cause analysis

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: BS Degree in Engineering field, preferred; Minimum of 3 years in process engineering or related field preferred with experience in extrusion or textiles preferred.  Six Sigma Green or Black Belt preferred.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, process, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write technical reports and routine correspondence.  Ability to effectively manage technical resources and speak confidently before groups. 
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures associated with the process department. 
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. High attention to detail through observation of facts and interpretation of data/
  • Physical Demands: Requires prolonged sitting or stand and frequent bending, stooping and stretching; manual dexterity; frequent lifting and carrying 10 pounds; occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds. Must understand the basic fundamentals of plastic product machinery and the process behind the mechanics.  Must be familiar with the use of office equipment, such as a computer, calculator, telephone, copier and fax machine. Work is performed in an office and manufacturing environment.  Multiple times daily on the manufacturing floor.
