The Plant Manager will monitor and coordinate the effective and efficient utilization of employees through proactive, high participation work team involvement. The position directs all day to day activities of the plant consistent with company policies and procedures.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for establishment, compliance and leadership of plant safety objectives.
  • Ensure compliance to all safety policies and procedures. Establish and maintain a “safety first” culture.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the manufacturing, process engineering, and maintenance functions to ensure the most effective return on assets.
  • Interact regularly with Frontline Leaders and production employees to provide direction and leadership.  Be a visible presence in manufacturing and distribution areas.
  • Implement manufacturing strategies and action plans to ensure alignment with Berry’s strategic initiatives and core values.
  • Initiate plans and processes to minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials and capital.
  • Ensure compliance with all government regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and maintain a culture of continuous improvement, quality, high performance and process excellence
  • Establish team and individual accountabilities for problem solving and cost reduction.
  • Ensure effective labor utilization within departments to allow for maximum return on labor investment.      
  • Manage spending against budget and in relation to production volume.
  • Establish management practices throughout facility to encourage employees’ positive involvement, with the opportunity for constructive input and action.
  • Conduct daily operations meetings and periodic plant communications meetings. Ensure effective communication with all employees.
  • Ensure budget and financial forecasts are developed and met.
  • Partner with Finance function to ensure all business related decisions are financially/legally/ethically justified.
  • Ensure timely, effective and efficient procurement, inventory levels and delivery of finished goods.
  • Partner with the Human Resources function to ensure effective management of human capital.
  • Participate in long term strategic planning involving the optimum utilization of Berry assets and human resources.
  • Through leveraged knowledge of current technology and market trends, participates in the definition of advanced products required to sustain a cost effective competitive position.
  • Responsible for driving the full implementation of cost improvement programs to consistently maintain a cost competitive edge in the manufacturing of products.
  • Direct or support the effective implementation of investment projects approved for capacity or facility expansion and upgrades.
  • Creates and maintains contingency plans.
  • Continuously validates quality indicators and best practices developed in other Berry plants (internal benchmarking).
  • Prepare and present annual budget to senior management.
  • Supervise/manage direct reports (including decision-making for hiring, promotion and discharge).
  • May lead or participate in regional or global projects.
  • Foster and enhance the safety culture to achieve safety excellence
  •  Provide operational and employee leadership to the facility
  •  Manage financial performance and make required changes as needed to meet business commitment
  • Manage all aspects of the plant cost structure including direct and indirect labor, maintenance and consumable spending and proactively control to business volume swings to preserve profitability
  • Assist operating management with budgeting, production statistics, cost analysis, justification of capital expenditures and asset management
  • Lead the facility in establishing and meeting continuous improvement objectives
  • Partner with department managers to develop and maintain a positive culture consistent with Berry Global values, behaviors and mission
  • Encourage and support the development of all plant employees
  • Responsible for overall performance efficiencies and competitive service level for the plant
  • Participate in process improvement and cost savings efforts
  • Responsible for incorporating continuous quality improvement principles into daily quality culture
  • Assures compliance with state and federal regulatory matters including OSHA, EPA, EEO and Affirmative Action, Quality Audits
  • Overall management responsibility for the implementation of mandatory and best practice sharing for cost savings, safety compliance and reduced employee hazard exposure 
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in related field required or relevant combination of education & experience.
  • Six Sigma green or black belt preferred.
  • Seven years minimum leadership experience in a manufacturing facility 
  • Experience in quality control, engineering and operations of a textile, paper or extrusion manufacturer preferred. 
  • Work is performed in an office environment with frequent contact with others. Ability to manage multiple functional areas and develop/execute plans for the plant. Must have excellent management, communication and interpersonal skills. Good knowledge of technical aspects and financial issues. Able to lead and/or coordinate activities of different functional areas within the plant. The ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and experience with injection molding manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of and experience in leading a progressive manufacturing facility
  • Strong organizational skills with proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Financial analysis ability with 2-3 years of experience in budgets and cost analysis
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and JDE
  • Strong planning/organizing, analytical and problem skills required
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision & prioritize responsibility
  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and multi-task environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate/present findings to a wide variety of audiences and levels within the organization
  • Ability to supervise, coach, mentor and perform other functions associated with leading and managing a group
  • Ability to make quick, sound decisions based on current information and past experiences. Must be able to respond to emergency situations in a calm, rational manner with a logical approach
