Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance to all safety policies and procedures.  Establish, support and maintain a “safety first” culture. 
  • Plan, organize, and direct the quality function to ensure the most effective return on assets. 
  • Interact regularly with Frontline Leaders and production employees to provide direction and leadership. 
  • Implement manufacturing strategies and action plans to ensure alignment with Berry Global strategic initiatives and core values. 
  • Supervise QA personnel
  • Interface with and frequently visit customer sites to build relationships and understand customer requirements. 
  • Initiate plans and processes to minimize costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, and materials. 
  • Ensure compliance with all government regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains statistically valid quality testing program consistent with industry standards.
  • Manages internal and external audit processes.
  • Ensures that all quality data is compliant with ISO9001:2008.
  • Uses continuous improvement methods such as Lean and Six Sigma to develop best practices in quality.
  • Partners with other sites to standardize test methods and reduce non-value added activity.
  • Partners with Operations and Supply Chain to address customer support and quality issues.
  • Responsible for pest control program as it relates to the quality function 
  • Ensures maintenance of quality data collection system. 
  • Supports process engineering on process control.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting, trend analysis, and corrective actions of lab related issues.
  • Responsible for competitive analysis and testing including mill trials and customer samples.
  • Recommends disposition of all non-conforming material to Process Engineering Manager
  • Serves as point of contact for non- Berry Global certification representatives (ISO)

Establish and maintain a “safety first”, quality and continuous improvement culture

  • Ensure implementation of systems/procedures in order to achieve customer satisfaction synchronized with the commercial area
  • Establish safety clearance processes both internally and externally.
  • Establish, maintain and ensure compliance with quality audit procedures
  • Ensure all decisions are linked to Berry Global’s strategic plan and core values. 
  • Provide continuous improvement and training to ensure a competent internal quality audit groupPrepare and present audit reports
  • Develop and implement corrective and/or preventive actions
  • Direct investigation on product and process irregularity causes
  • Monitor corrective actions regarding process and product to ensure appropriate results
  • Consistently confirm quality indicators and process best practices performed in other plants of the group (Internal Benchmarking)
  • Establish and maintain a culture of continuous improvement, quality, high performance and process excellence
  • Establish team and individual accountabilities for problem solving and cost reduction. 
  • Ensure effective labor utilization within departments to allow for maximum return on labor investment. 
  • Encourage employees’ positive involvement, with the opportunity for constructive input and action
  • Conduct periodic quality department and plant communications meetings.  Ensure effective communication of quality objectives and results with all employees. 
  • Partner with the Supply Chain function to ensure timely, effective and efficient delivery of finished goods. 
  • Partner with the Human Resources function to ensure effective management of human capital. 
  • Participate in long term strategic planning for the quality function involving the optimum utilization of Berry Global
  •  assets and human resources.
  • Through leveraged knowledge of current technology and market trends, participates in the definition of advanced products required to sustain a cost effective competitive position.
  • Support the effective implementation of investment projects approved for capacity or facility expansion and upgrades.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of contingency plans. 
  • Continuously validate quality indicators and best practices developed in other Berry Global plants (internal benchmarking)..
  • Supervise/manage direct reports (including decision-making for hiring, promotion and discharge).
  • May lead or participate in regional or global projects 
  • Train others as required in areas of expertise.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Quality Management or related field, or equivalent training and experience 
  • Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor
  • Six sigma green or black belt preferred 
  • Certified Quality Manager or Certified Quality Engineer Preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role Process or Quality Assurance in a manufacturing environment
