Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the safe operation and leadership of a printing press and the crew assigned to it.

  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures while ensuring all team members work within the safety guidelines as established by Berry.
  • Complete safety orientation and forklift certification training.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of our product, customer specifications and visual inspection requirements.
  • Collect and document specific data.
  • Demonstrate basic math skills, both metric and standard.
  • Ability to use color measuring instruments for monitoring color (Gretag).
  • Measure and monitor ink viscosities and its effect on color.
  • Basic color theory and control in multi-color printing.
  • Apply measurement and data to identify root causes and solve problems.
  • Use applicable statistical tools when and where necessary.
  • Effectively communicate and interact professionally with all people in the work environment.
  • Understand the importance of and respect and maintain the confidentiality of the company and customer.
  • Utilize teamwork in order to fulfill job requirements and process improvement.
  • Apply general computer skills (i.e., Shop Floor, Quality Windows, etc.)
  • Effectively train new team members.
  • Understand the components and functions of the basic flexographic printing press, including but not limited to the Unwind, Infeed, Drying, Outfeed, Rewind, Register, Impression setting, Port-a-lift and Inking systems.
  • Apply general makeready procedures for flexographic printing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret Job Discrete Routing Sheets and how to identify raw materials by part numbers.
  • Recognize, identify, and communicate problems in specific terms (troubleshooting).
  • Effectively transfer information between shifts.
  • Understand and interpret MSDS sheets.
  • Understand SOC sheets and how to properly fill out.
  • Demonstrate good housekeeping and organizational skills.
  • Ensure proper solvent and ink handling procedures are implemented and followed.
  • Ensure proper hazardous waste handling procedures are implemented and followed.

 

 

Qualifications

Education: High School  Diploma or GED preferred

Experience: Three to five years manufacturing experience operating a flexographic printing press required.
