The Sustainability Project Manager will help identify and track opportunities to facilitate new sustainable products for the division’s $3.0 billion rigid packaging business. They will work cross functionally to assess market dynamics, identify customer targets and build a strategy around how customers will engage with rigid packaging solutions in the future, which will include factors such as sustainability, customer/user experience and pertain to both product design and material usage.

Berry seeks to elevate product innovation in order to align its product offerings to respond to changing market dynamics. While Berry possesses individual product roadmaps and innovation and sustainability initiatives, it is seeking a forward-thinking strategy to fully capture project opportunities to meet our Impact 2025 goals.

The Sustainability Project Manager will be focused on multiple aspects of Berry’s sustainability product portfolio and post-consumer and post-industrial resin supply chain solutions.


*Preferred location is corporate headquarters in Evansville, Indiana, although other locations will be considered.

  • Monitor latest trends, including legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Address customer sustainability surveys and requests for information.
  • Assist with reporting metrics for divisional sustainability initiatives.
  • Support corporate marketing team with divisional success stories and other ad hoc requests.
  • Assist with creation and delivery of sustainability training to division employees & customers.
  • Support short- and long-range sustainability strategies through development and execution of supporting projects and engaging multifunctional teams.
  • Continuously benchmark competition to ensure industry leading technology and product performance for each product line.
  • Support PLM, PD and Sales teams as technical liaison to drive new product acceptance and growth.
  • Manage database of PCR projects, in alignment with PLM and PD activities.
  • Assist with research and development and sampling of new products/materials.
  • Engage with operations to support materials related projects.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with plastics and recycling industry groups to monitor issues and advance the interests of Berry.

  • B.S. / M.S. degree in engineering, marketing or equivalent is required. M.B.A. is preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant product experience in packaging.
  • Customer and partnership development experience.
  • Experience with consumer insights and market intelligence.
  • Willingness to travel 20-40% of the time.
  • Strategic thinking (“big picture”) and ability to move quickly to execution.
  • Creative thinking, particularly the ability to apply existing technology in new domains.
  • Collaborative and able to lead through consensus building.
  • Strong planning/organizing skills. Strong project management capabilities.  Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, including planning, time lines, communication of key project updates. Comfortable with managing changing priorities.
  • Capability to effectively communicate/present findings to a wide variety of audiences.
